Background

As the sewer cleaning work accident happened in 2024. It is suggested that work safety alert should implement toward confined space. Meanwhile it is essential to have a digital work supervision system for all type of site work. And the Site Working Authority Certification System is the great entry point for the DWSS.

Goal & Objective

Digitalise existing safety inspection process

Ensuring notifying relevant users about entry and leave record of workers

My role in the team

As the sole and lead designer for mobile application. It is essential for me to understand the whole picture before drafting any interface. My key role is to pitching our users through a storytelling journey of proposed solution toward safety attendance record. Also, other side feature like digital work supervision for DSD staff.

I have to considerate not just entertain our end users. As the key mission and deliverable is to propose a safety working environment through the application. An essential gate keeping for site working.

Design Process

  1. Study existing workflow in to new system

  2. Define the end users -> Schedule meeting to align the users need and requirement

  3. Design interactive prototype based on users' pain points

Application Design

The system will be design as two separated application. One for contractors and their workers, another one for DSD staff. While some of the feature would only available in desktop only.

Information Architecture

For Contractor Workers

Adding site work authorisation certification

Workers are required site work authorisation certification to entry the site as well as using the application. If user do not have a valid SWAC. It will navigate user to scan a new access QR Code. And user are able to choose either using camera, photo or PDF file as input.

Attendance Record

As the interface is heavily used by site workers. It is designed to be simple and clean. A huge button to record attendance. A clear colour variation for in and out. These visual help user to get along how to interact without too much information.

Solution Highlight

Quick Action

For the DSD staff, there are tons of task they are required to be done. And most of the task are based on "Work Order" as a unit. Quick action helps to shorten and automate a long process of selecting

Ease of use

One of the pain point for worker is digital gap. Most workers may not family with electronic devices. A personal account would be add extra effort for them. Requiring memorising username and password would eventually affect the safety process, adding risk to it.

Therefore, I decided to storing the certificate of QR code as local instead of processing online. Workers can simply adding and using QR code within a few clicks. And by using GPS information, allowing worker quickly to choose the certificate to be use.
